[Miata] 2001 won't start

It's either fuel or spark.  The first step is to figure out which one you
don't have.  When my '92 did this it was a broken timing belt, but since
yours tries to start, this isn't your problem.   You can easily test for
spark by squirting some starting fluid in the intake.  If it fires,
concentrate on the fuel.  If not, concentrate on the spark.  If you just
gassed up, it could be water in the tank.  Use gas drier (not gas treatment)
to get rid of this.  This is where I would start.
