Hey Gang,
This is sort of an update on the over rich fueling fouling problem that my '99 Miata track car developed at my last event. Anyway, a couple of weeks ago, in effort to remedy the problem I replaced the O2 sensor, plugs and cleaned the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor. Started the car up and it seemed fixed. This past weekend I replaced the timing belt, 'cause it was due. Started it up and it's blowing black smoke again. :( When I was putting it back together I noticed a wire (white/red) belonging to the MAF had two nicks in it, so I taped it up before I started the car. The nicks could have ruined the MAF and the cleaning or the movement from the cleaning just temporarily allowed it to work properly... I don't know. Thoughts?
Hey, if there is anybody in the Richmond, VA area on the list with a 99/00 that might be willing to stop by and let me try your MAF in my car to see if it IS the problem, that would be great! I just don't have the $$ to throw to at parts for a "possible" fix. A swap of this part is pretty simple and quick. If anybody can help, give me a call at 804-380-2366.
Thanks,
Chris A.
