AirConIf the compressor isn't coming on the most likely reason is low Freon. There is a low pressure switch. Turn the car on and look at the A/C compressor and have someone cycle the switch on and off. You should see the clutch engage and the compressor start turning. I'm betting you won't. Next go to the passenger side of the engine in line with the throttle body and look for the switch on the A/C line. Remove the plug and jumper it with a paper clip and you should see the compressor turn on. If it does the system is not running due to low Freon. Don't leave the compressor running like this just turn it on as a test. If this turns it on your in need of an A/C tech to check for leaks and refill the system. BTW the sight glass doesn't do any good if the compressor won't run.

Subject: [Miata] AirCon
My air-con stopped working on a recent week long road trip. Worked fine on the first morning (defrost) and never worked again all trip. I push the A/C button in and nothing happens. The compressor doesn't engage/turn on. In the recent weeks it seemed to be not as cold as at had been last summer. Any hints how to start diagnosing this? Is there anything where the pressure is too low, the compressor won't kick in? I'm a total A/C noob. All the vehicles I've had, the A/C always just worked.
