You can get aftermarket upper balljoints and not replace the arms. Look at Rockauto.com for them. The old one need to be chiseled off and the new ones bolt in.

  Leo,

As I recall, the upper ball joints are replaced as an assembly with the upper control arm. My preferred source for OEM parts is Finishline Performance (Rosenthal Mazda):

The boots and bushings are listed; you may need to call Tommy to get the price for the assembly. 1-800-347-3493. The prices are very good, the service is excellent!

Hello, I could use a little help with a '90 with about 250,000 miles. The lower balljoint is shot, so I disasemble and remove the lower ball joint, no problem. Since its apart I figure I'll also change the upper ball joint and the tierod ends. None of the local shops has the upper joint in stock, its a special order. Questions:

  1) How is the upper ball joint removed from the control arm? Do I have to remove the control arm to press it out?

  2) Since everything is apart, any other components I should consider replacing? shocks?

Thanks for any feedback or point me to a information source. Leo Perez
