[Miata] - turning down down brake rotors at home

Well the reason is that in most cases performance car makers don't recommend turning rotors at all. You can not get the same finish on a rotor as it originally was made with and your likely to end up with pedal pulse or grabbing or just poor braking.

If your rotors are pulsing already or have grooves replace them. Otherwise just clean them off with brake cleaner and a scotchbrite pad and install the new pads. A lot of brake issues come from contaminating new pads with residual material from the rotors surface.

Miata rotors aren't that expensive that it is worth dealing with issues. I just change them if they are questionable.

I have some free time at work and I was wondering if there was any reason that I should have my brake rotors turned down on a low speed brake rotor lathe at a brake shop instead of doing it myself. If I bolt it to an old front hub it will fit in the collet and as long as it is still within tolerances when I am done there should be any problems... Right?
