[Miata] Parking brake

I've not really ever seen any stretch in the cable. If you have the caliper adjustment correct before you mess with the cable length then your pretty much good to go.

The only time I've ever seen problems is when someone took a car to a mechanic who had no clue about the caliper adjustment and they adjusted the cable tight to compensate.

Nope, if you have the rear brakes adjusted properly once to the 1/3 turn before you adjust the cable length then you don't need to
deal with the cable length again.

Not to fan fires, but are there no instances of cable stretch? That's what I was thinking of when I wrote my response.
I ask because our Ramwagon's cable is quite stretch even though the p-brake mechanism at the drums is right where it should
be. You can easily pull the cable to hold the brake while under the vehicle, but inside foot pedal doesn't pull enough through to
tighten well (it grabs a little). The adjustment under the vehicle is full-tight (and rusted to hell so even if it weren't...)
Anyway, just curious. I don't imagine the cable is all the expensive to replace; it's got to be pretty short of a p-brake
  cable!
