The thing to remember here is that you want the protection but you also need
to be able to wear the suit without passing out. Here in S.C. you would die
wearing a 3 layer suit. I agree with Jon that you can always add a layer
under the suit too if you want more protection.
I have a 2 layer suit and a 1 layer suit. I bought the 2 layer because at
the time it was required by the SCCA for Solo I. I bought the 1 layer
because I found that I could not wear the 2 layer suit to a track event if
it were anything past Marc or April without changing out of it between run
sessions.
