The washer and dryer are for doing things like shop rags with oil and detailing rags with wax on them.

Thx larry, those are the 2 issues I've seen online as well.

One place says if you clean it as well as possible, then preheat the part and reclean you can get all the contaminants to come out during the preheating stage. (which is apparently an issue w/ cast aluminum)

on the curing, a used oven can be bought for not too much money (one place suggested going to a "mom and pop" appliance store and ask to buy one w/ bad burners or just an old one they removed out of someones home. (electric only, since gas stoves aren't a good idea for this) I won't be doing this yet, b/c I live in a 350sq ft. efficiency apt...and I wouldn't call it "well ventilated" so was going to do this once I finish school and buy a house. (of course I have cured paint on a shotty that I refinished in my miniture oven. not to mention I cooked my headlights in that same oven. (but I'm a college student and the closest thing I get to cooking is hot pockets or pop tarts)

More curious of the quality of these home kits, and the results they provide. I figure getting a cheap oven can't be too hard, and I can build a small booth to do the "painting" in. but the results I will/can see w/ an inexpensive PC gun is my main concern.

why do you need a 2nd washer and dryer? the powder brushes off before baked...rage don't get "wet". much less cleanup than painting.

    Two problems with DIY

    1. Is cleaning the parts well enough. The guy that does my powdercoating sandblasts everything first to make sure it is clean and the surface will allow the powdercoating to bond.

    2. Is curing it. Do you have a spare oven?? I'm not sure I want to cure it in my oven in my house.

Someday when I build the 10 car garage/workshop I will have an area with an oven and a washer and dryer in it for doing powdercoating and cleaning up work rags and clothes.

Okay, so I want to get my valve cover powder coated, but I saw on Eastwood.com that you can buy a DIY kit of sorts...anyone have any experiences w/ this? Curious as to the results I might be able to get out of such a kit? I'll probably have to wait until this summer to do anything, but would love to be able to do it myself...could have myself a new hobby!! Any tips? thoughts? fears? etc would be great.

I know that if I had a setup of my own I could do my brake calipers, valve cover, intake / exhaust manifolds, wheels (if I got bored w/ current color). I know it would save cash, time, and best of all, I'd have a new toy.

      Thanks in advance
