It was a while ago.
It slipped over the hoop.
The sides were cut away so they could clear the top of the hoop and then slide down the vertical bars. He then through bolted it to the verticals in a few places. I have no idea if it was SCCA legal but it passed track day techs. The new top bar basically sat on top of the old bar since that bought you more than 2" increase in height so it's not like it was sticking up 4 feet more in the air and needed additional rearward bracing.

Okay. I don't know how closely you looked at the guys roll bar setup but.
1) Was it another 'U' shaped hoop that bolted outboard, ahead, or behind the main hoop?
2) Was there any special provision on the main roll bar hoop aside from bolt holes (ie brackets, loops etc)
3) Did bolts just go through each hoop or were there special lugs welded on?
Any idea if it was SCCA legal?
Thanks again Larry,
Luis

No pictures, sorry. It was about 3 or 4 years ago
Yes it slipped over the main hoop and bolted onto it.

I would love to see a picture of this. Is the extension attached to the main hoop only?
I have kicked this idea around a few times but I could not see a clean way to do it and remain SCCA legal. There is money to be made here if someone like Hard Dog would make it an option.

The guy built it. It slipped down over the existing rollbar and bolted on to it to raise the height.

Roll bar extender? There is such a thing? I would love to be able to extend my Hard Dog roll bar about four inches. Somehow, I doubt this is an option.
Larry?

I had a student at Roebling Road driving a TR6 once. He had this black tape over the fan switch for the heat. It was January and cold out!!! The top was down or he couldn't use his rollbar extender that made us track legal. So I had to ask why we couldn't use the fan for the heat. On his trip to the track every time he turned on the heater fan he blew the fuse, the problem?? It also shut off the fuel pump. He was down to his last fuse on the trip so he taped over the knob so he wouldn't forget and turn on the heater!!
We were very cold!!! I was wearing a winter coat over my driving suit!!

I take long road trips in my British sports cars and just carry a few extra strands of wires, some mini jumpers and electrical tape and an AAA Plus card.
I was coming back from Watkins Glen in the middle of nowhere in upstate NY in our TR4A with my 18 year old son. We go over a bump, and lose the radio. He is driving, so I decide to fix the radio on the fly. Start jingling the wires behind the dash, spark and then no ignition. Car dies. Run a jumper from the battery to the coil, lay screw driver across the starter solenoid. and we are off and running. The lad says that was impressive Dad. Priceless. Drove the last 200 miles without the Radio.
