Hi Charlie!

   Keith is correct.... your problem is most likely a loss of power to the 
ECU (which drives the check engine light).   I would replace the "main 
relay" on general principles.... if that turns out not to be the problem, 
then you will have a spare.   I would also crawl into the passenger's 
footwell and remove the connector from the ECU and spray it with a good 
contact cleaner / restorer such as De-Ox-It or Cramolin.   I would also use 
contact cleaner on the relay socket before installing the new relay.
