Can't you just rejoin the wires and insulate them with some heat shrink tubing??

  I found that the wire had been chewed through by the pulley.  One wire completely through, and one partial.  
  Cause of wire misplacement?  I replaced the timing belt about 700 miles ago.  I really thought I had tucked everything out of the way.  Really.  How-some-ever, apparently not.  :-(   Live and learn.
  So, off to the NAPA store.  Curiously, NAPA's website lists three different replacements, all with different prices ($76 to $104), for my 97.  Can't tell from their web page if VIN# matters.  Maybe I'll try Mazda.
