[Miata] Tire Recommendations?

Last summer, after long deliberation, I bought the Goodyear Eagle F1s for my 2004 Mazdaspeed. They are, of course, in this case, the
17" low profile model and not exactly the one's you would use on your '94.
After over one year now, I must say that I extremly satisfied with them. Their performance on wet pavement is perfect for this area,
Florida, with it's almost daily downpours. They wear much better than the original Toyos which were on the car and I wonder if
their "cost-per-mile" is not too bad, even considering that they are not exactly budget-priced tires.
I cant say anything negative about the tires I have NOT used, but these suit me fine. Just keep them properly inflated and they will
serve you well.

I bought a set of T1-r's. To me, they are squishy soft and imprecise.
If you want a Cadillac ride, but decent grip, this is an expensive way to get there.
A while back (December 2005) Car and Driver evaluated 11 tires. The Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 performed very well in the wet and dry
and came in an overall 1st (factoring price). The comments were:
"As an all-around high-performance tire, you can't beat this Goodyear. It was the best performer in all three wet-track tests and
was very competent in the dry. It generated 0.94 g on the dry skidpad, only 0.01 g off the first-place BFGoodrich and tied with the
Yokohama and Hankook.
The Goodyear gripped so well that you might not have been certain the road was wet, and it lost traction in a gentle, predictable
manner. It held onto the wet track with 0.82 g of stick, an impressive figure considering the worst tire in that test made only 0.67
g.
The Eagle F1 got a lot of favorable comments. In the wet, Geswein called it "direct"-a way of saying the tire provided clear signals
about its contact with the pavement.
There were tires that performed better in the dry, but the Eagle wasn't far off. It was a little less precise than the BFG and
Yokohama on a dry track, but not by much. And like the Continental, the Goodyear had a high 280 tread-wear grade. At $145 each, it's
$34 cheaper than the most expensive tire here. ."
The Kumho came in 11th, the Toyo 8th.

Friends,
My 94 M Edition will be coming due for replacement tires soon. Currently, she wears Kumho Ecstas - which are great tires on warm,
dry days but are a bit dodgy when the roads get wet, and are downright frightening if there's any snow or ice on the road (ask me
how I know).
I live in the metro Washington DC area, which means we get cool/cold winters, but normally not a great deal of snow. Ice storms
occur periodically, and the only really safe way to deal with those is to stay off the road completely.
My Miata is a second car; I don't have to drive her every day (no matter how much I may want to!). I'd like to replace the Kumhos,
when the time comes, with tires that will let me have confidence driving her in the wet. I try not to drive her in the snow, only
because DC area drivers are a bit loony at the best of times. When the snow comes, I want to keep my precious Miata protected from
the morons with wheels - and my other car offers a good deal more personal protection. That car (98 Altima) has all-season tires
that act like Velcro - car just sticks to the pavement no matter what.
I like the Miata, and drive her "con brio", but I don't compete or auto X her. Any suggestions on tires that will extend her driving
season?
