[Miata] '93 Doesn't always start the first time

Doesn't start like in cranks but doesn't start, or doesn't crank at all?
What happens when you turn the key - nothing, a click then nothing, or the
engine turns over but doesn't catch?

I gather that the car starts normally when cold or cool?

How many miles on the car?

  When it's warm outside, or I've driven a distance of say 50 miles or more,
my 93 sometimes won't start.  I keep turning the key to the on position
(sometimes 3 or 4 times) and it starts as usual.  Any ideas?
