[Miata] racing harness

If a 4 point harness is no good on the track because it would ride up off your hips, why would using it on the street make it any less dangerous???

Sit in a car sometime and hookup the belts without the crotch strap and then tighten the shoulder belts and see what happens.

Your right about the seat type too but my main concern was he asked about a belt and I rather not see him buying a 4 point.

All those are good choices, but I think the most obvious question(s) have been missed (unless I missed the start of this threat - I often only seem to get them in mid-stream).

What does he need the harness for? Racing? Tracking? Autocrossing? Street use only? If racing, then I would agree w/ Larry's comments about 4 vs 5/6 point harnesses. If only tracking, autocrossing, or street use, I would think a properly installed 4 point would be fine.

A larger concern to me would be the seat used w/ any harness. For a harness to work properly, it should pass through openings in the seat - otherwise, in a frontal impact, the harness could slip off your shoulders, possibly dislocating both of them in the process, and providing no real protection.

    G-Force! I knew I forgot a brand, lol...

In all seriousness, I can't really tell you which one is better. I just thought I'd give you lots of choices :-)

Most brands are fine. If your looking for a "name" you're asking the wrong guy since I'm into what works what's not cool.

If you want a good harness at a good price I use the G Force units and I deal with Ron at

        Dear Larry,
OK, I didn't know that. Thanks for the heads up. So, what brand do you recommend and where is a good place to find them?

          Yea

          The suggestion is don't

4 points are dangerous in that they can ride up off your hips and in a crash you can have problems. You need/want a 5 or 6 point harness.

No good track event will allow you to use a 4 point, PCA bans them.

I am shopping for a 4-point racing harness that will work with my Boss Frog Double Hoop roll bar. Any suggestions?
