It sounds like it's short cycling which usually means it has a low Freon condition.

Subject: [Miata] a/c fixed, but it is supposed to be like this?
Hi all,
After owning my car for 1.5 years, the current hot weather in Cincinnati finally drove me to get the a/c looked at. [The fact the fiancee's car a/c died and I have to remove the entire dash to get at the evaporator had more to do with it.]
While going down the highway at constant speed, I notice that I can feel the compressor kick in and out about once a minute. Is this normal? It's slight, but I can still feel it. I thought that once the a/c was on, it was on. I also had the thing converted to 134a, for what that's worth.
They also re-aligned the wheels, but I'm still all over the place with those truck ruts in I-75. <grin>
regards,
Sean
