[Miata] New Mazda owner....

I had a student at Roebling Road once driving a TR6. This was January and it was COLD and when I got in the car he had a huge piece of electrical tape over the fan switch for the heater. After doing our briefing I had to ask what the tape was for. He explained that on the way down from Charlotte he blew 4 fuses running the heater fan and since it was on the same circuit as the fuel pump it was either heat or a running car. BTW, he only had 1 spare fuse left so we put on extra clothes and toughed it out. Other than that the car ran fine for the rest of the weekend. I did expect to get off early due to him breaking but it did survive!!!

  Jeani,
Amen to the Prince of Darkness. I used to have a 1966 Cooper S that gave you a choice. You got to pick 2 out of 3 to have on at any one time between the headlights, wipers and heater/defroster fan. Yes sir great fun. I know that car was female since every time I tried to use it on a date the car quit when I picked up my date.

The Miata of course would never do that. My wife might wring my neck but the car would run fine. :)

Yeah, my wonderful mechanic in C'ton decided it was the guage, and we devided it was not worth messing with. However, you should have seen me creeping down the expressway to work one AM, guage on ZERO, funny noise from motor, Haynes manual in my lap, frantically trying to figure out how much a new oil pump would cost, and how do I get HOME? Turns out it was a minor something ratteling, and the guage had died.
But I got some odd looks--nothing new!

I do have funky wiring--for a while, the radio went off when I turned on the lights. Thats stopped. But being an old MG/Triumph Motorcycle person, I am used to electrics that just decide to work oddly--Lucas, Prince of Darkness, you know.

jeani, who has been sanding for 2 hours to get the rust off the wiper assemblies, and quit when it got to be about 100 degrees

Oh, yeah, one addition to my reply to Jeani... What he said. The
problem with the guage could be the guage itself, the sender, or the
wiring, BUT it could also be a problem in the motor (do you have enough
oil in it? Does it burn / leak any? Is the oil pump good? That kinda
      stuff).
