We do it here in Northern California too. The part of I-80 that runs 
THROUGH Sacramento is referred to as "the W-X freeway" because it is 
located between W Street and X Street. Of course the OFFICIAL 
designation is now Business 80 and the former I-880 bypass is now just 
I-80. The funny thing is that the stretch between 29th & 30th has never 
had an unofficial name that I recall.
