the Expressways that pass through and around Chicago also have
names. Like the CA example that Tim explained, the same road
can have different names depending on where you are. you can
tell the difference between a native Chicago resident and a
visitor by looking at the expression on their face when you
ask them to take the Kennedy to the Dan Ryan or the Edens.

To further complicate matters, one name can refer to multiple
Tollways/Interstates. Personally I prefer to use the numbers
because it is simpler.

For you guys who pass through Chicago and wonder about the names:
Kennedy Expressway = I90/94
Dan Ryan Expressway = I90/94
Stevenson Expressway = I55
Tri-State Tollway = I294/80/94
Ronald Reagan Memorial Tollway = I88

The odd one is the Elgin-O'Hare Expressway that does not go to
the city of Elgin nor does it reach the O'Hare airport. IIRC
there has been talk to make it reach Elgin and O'Hare but the
towns that it will pass though have been fighting the expansion.

There are many more named expressways. This wiki page has the
full list
