[Miata] 2001+ Miata - IAT sensor mod - Timing

What are the opinions here of the little "add a resistor into one of the
wires going to the IAT sensor?"  not replacing the sensor w/ a resistor, but
adding one to the line, to make the computer think its colder than it really
is. I was under the impression this would make the car run rich, but its
said that it alters the timing more than the a/f ratio.  Which I guess makes
sense, you still have the O2 sensors, which should, in theory realize its a
tad rich (as compared to stock) and lean it out a bit (back to stock
presets)...thoughts?

Some of the 2001+ guys on miata.net are saying good things, so I'm curious.
Not to mention I'm bored...
