Right at the top of the shock shaft there is a shoulder that butts up
against the washer,  you can usually  get a pair of channel locks on there
to hold the shaft if you're careful.

I've had that problem with Koni. I cut a piece off of an old mouse pad,
wrapped around the shaft and held it with some Channellock pliers.

Can't. Along with the previous reasons given, the shaft on the Illumina is
hollow to accommodate the adjustment mechanism. That's why they don't make
them with a flat to fit the mount.
