Hi guys,
The Bose head unit in my '99 died over the summer. At the time, I replaced
it with a Nakamichi CD-400 cd-player (really classy, no bells and whistles,
looks stock). Of course since I was dealing with the craptacular Bose
setup, I also had to replace the 0.5ohm proprietary Bose speakers with 4 ohm
speakers, and bypass the little Bose amp. I used a set of Infinity
Reference 6.5" components that I had lying around, and powered them off the
HU.
Now I'm ready to upgrade :)
So I've been shopping around for amps and new speakers. I'm currently
looking at picking up an older 4 channel amp (4x50watts RMS @ 4 ohm @ 12v,
well regarded for sound quality) that is 11"x6.5"x2". That should power my
current speakers (or whatever I upgrade to) just fine. I'm also thinking
about picking up a 2 channel amp (2x100watts RMS @ 4ohm @ 12v) that has the
same dimensions which I could use in the future to power a small sub.
I've been looking for a narrow amp (6.5" or less) so that I could fit it in
the right-side tunnel between the trunk and passenger cabin so I don't have
to sacrifice any trunk space.
So ... my question is how long is the tunnel? I know the 6.5" will fit
width-wise, but could I fit two amps requiring about 22-25" lengthwise?
I'm also curious to hear what other owners (especially NB owners) have done
to mount amplifiers in their cars.
Regards,
Dillon
