If you put www.miata.net into it you see what it looked like all the way back to 1997. And if you look at the Jan 1, 2006 version you will see that it is horizontally constrained (at least it is on my monitor).

People are way too focused on how pretty a page is rather than how
useful it is. Text wraps nicely.
Actually, it's easier to make a consistent and effective interface (these aren't the same thing as pretty) if you do have some constraints. Allowing the page to flow all over the place to meet hugely varying screen sizes is a real challenge, and sometimes it's best to set it up so it makes maximum use of the target design size in order to make it work well for everyone.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the front page always constrained horizontally? I don't remember.
