By using common sense, a modicum of investigation, and a basic knowledge
of How These Things Work (tm). :P

Granted, *that page* doesn't tell you where the data comes from, but the
domain name gives a clue, and going to their home page confirms it: the
data is gathered by a counter (or "web bug") embedded in the web pages
of sites which use their service. This bug allows them to collect

     * Which Web browsers your site's visitors are using
     * The screen resolution of your site's visitors
     * Which Operating System they're using
     * Which sites are referring others to your site
     * Which search engines are being used to find your site
     * Which keywords visitors are using in those search engines

Individual clients can log in and view the statistics for their own
domains, and there's also a "Global Stats" link which takes you to the
agglomerated statistics from all monitored pages for the month of your
choice. Clicking November 2006 brings us back to where we started.

Furthermore, clicking on the "ColorDepth" link on the right of that
chart shows that in that same period there were 350,000 hits from people
using either 256 colors (VGA) or *shudder* 16 colors (EGA); surely
nobody's going to suggest that sites should be color-crippled to look
good to them, too?!?

Cheers,
   Jon.
