Larry,
I feel personally very bad that anyone had to read that email saying I was killed....it wasn't funny. And while Tom is correct about some of the 'good-natured' kidding that goes on at the open road races, Tom, JB, Jason and everyone else who has been to the ORR's espially the ones in Nevada will tell you we are also not only friends with many of the Corvette and Porsche, etc competitors we are very close just by virtue of sharing the same passion.
I also realize 95% of the friends we get support from don't even race.
The message you and everyone else saw was 'not' a message that I saw as a joke and I apologise to YOU and anyone else who read the message Sunday before Tom, JB and others corrected the bs. I don't know who did it but it was way over the top. Perhaps we need to ensure anytime any message makes it to the List the subscriber gets deleted or better yet isn't allowed to even subscribe....
In anycase as Jason, Nick, Eliot and his family members and I left the banquet and I got back to the hotel room and saw the message I assumed one of our competitors or a kid lurking on the List decided to have some fun at our expense. Again, nothing could be funnier then to read about your death on the De Tomaso List.
Larry, while I like to challenge everyone don't think for a moment that my 'slacker-come-out-and-race-your-Pantera' comments is anything more then my being passionate about our De Tomaso automobiles and racing...I am probably the biggest slacker I know and my best friends ARE slackers. There is very little chest beating alpha male acting going on by any of the Pantera racers....Because we ALL know the dangers and respect them for what they are.
Again, other then the comedy of errors in Eliots luggage shooting out the front trunk of his Pantera we all had a good time....there were no accidents and the Viper driver I reported Saturday night that crashed in the 1-Mile shootout made a point to tell everyone about just how important he felt all the safety requirements were(ie harness, cage etc). He was also traveling at a confirmed 202 MPH!
We have NEVER had any cars crash at speeds less then 180 except for one BMW driver 4-5 years ago who rolled his new 8 series BMW V12 while fiddling with his GPS unit who was man-enough to take ownership at Awards dinner and tell everyone it was a total dumb ass move on his part.
Larry, write me off line how you are doing and if there is anything we can do to help you.

I lurk on this list, but I am always around.
My health is poor, and upon learning about Mad Dawg's death I was physically
ill and in mourning. Not all of us who have Panteras are uber-tough macho
chest-beating alpha-male studs, but we are people with feelings, who have
friendships that affect them.
I never have known Mad Dawg well, but he is part of why I bought a Pantera
to begin with. My friends consoled me over the death report and I had to go
to bed for most of the day.
That's how funny the death report prank was. It made a sick guy sicker.
Right up there with burning puppies on the old laugh-o-meter. Nice work.
Whatever shit-stains parented the prankster, I hope you're good and proud of
your little boy.
Whoever did it? You're a sad, pathetic sack of useless flesh, and if you've
ever had a friend, I doubt it was for very long.
