[DeTomaso] MSD Box Location

That sounds similar to the way my MSD is currently mounted in the engine compartment. I've seen other MSD units mounted on a small shelf bolted on the lower right-hand side across from the exhaust header. The MSD units are pretty rugged and rarely fail, as long as you don't weld on the car with one wired up (trust me on that one). I've also never heard of problems with the MSD tach adaptor before - sounds like you may have an electrical glitch somewhere else in the circuit that's taking it out.

I cut a plate of 1/4 thick aluminum and mounted it on one of the u bolts that hold the coolant hose on the passenger side, up high in the engine compartment, just under the right side cover. I also have my tach adapter mounted to the same plate. I belive the 7a boxes are safe, but I not reccomend having a tach adapter in the cockpit because I have had 2 of them burn. I fuse my exiting one with a 3 amp fuse that blows about every 4 months.....but it always saves the adapter.
