Agree. The bad press was the deal killer in my view. I don't think DeTomaso 
did a very good job marketing to the press or worse yet, he did something to 
make them very unhappy with him. Ferrari cultivated his image and they loved him 
for it. DeTomaso didn't have the cujones to make it happen. As far as the 
press was concerned, he was always the interloper and that's how they treated his 
cars. But I still say, from a performance point of view, the Pantera was the 
best choice, especially compared to the price.

PS In the early 70's you could get a cobra for next to nothing as well.
