Well, in '74 you could have purchased any '67 or earlier Corvette for
less than $3000 and today the right purchase would be worth over $100k.
Even a small block automatic will bring over $35k. I sold a '66 Corvette
in '86 for $13,500 to buy a '72 Pantera. Ten years later I sold the
Pantera for what it cost me while my '66 Corvette had been resold a year
earlier for $35k.
I feel that the unfavorable articles written about the Pantera when they
were introduced contributed a lot to today's lack of interest. Even
today every time somebody on this list posts something about a Pantera
on E-Bay it's negative. It's unfortunate but I don't see anything that
will make the Pantera more desirable. The only way it may happen is if
all the other cars get so picked over that the bottom feeders might
invest some money in a few Panteras. The problem with that is that so
many Panteras have been modified that any savvy buyer may be skeptical
about what is a proper purchase and shy away. I've done very well over
the years purchasing restorable cars and learned three lessons very
early. Know the market, buy the rarest I could find and make sure it had
all the original equipment.
