[DeTomaso] Goodyear tires

Depends on sanctioning body and your goal speed....Big Bend Texas people are a little looser on this tire rule.

Pete Beckham showed up at Silver State with Hoosier's on front and BFG's on back a few years ago and tire tech would NOT pass him citing the two different mfg rule.....but that was because Pete ran 150 MPH Average with a top speed of 165. They offered to let him run slower but would not budge on the two tire rule.....its the same Tire Tech at Silver State that it was 10 years ago! He also expects the tires on your Pantera to meet original mfg tire loading.

Luckly for Pete, Larry Stock was at Silver State that year and offered to loan all most new tires and wheels to Pete and Pete subsequently passed Tech and finished the ORR....Larry has done this on several occasions. As i recall MKM Racing (Pony Express, Bonneville 100 & Gamblers run) are like Texas folks on not a hard and fast rule on mixing tires. Personally I wouldn't mix the tires.

Only from the esthetics point of view, which I personally don't care about if
it works. I autocrossed and street-drove Yoko 225-50x15 radials on the front
with Hoosier belted-bias 275-50x15s in the rear of a Pantera for several
years, 'cause that combination worked best at the time. For the last 15 yrs we've
been running 245-50x 15 BFG fronts with 275-55x 15 Pirelli rears, both radials,
at continuous speeds up to 150 mph.
What will really screw you up handling-wise is having different brands of
tires side to side- like a Goodyear AND a BFG on the front. And thats because
each tire runs at its own slip angle so the two sides of the car are fighting
each other. Dirt-track guys do it successfully but that stuff they run on is
low-traction compared to asphalt. My 2¢- J DeRyke
