These filters consist of a piece of foam captured in a triangular-shaped

steel mesh, which completely covers the mouth of the carburetor.  The
foam is 
inherently flammable, even before it is soaked in gasoline fumes.  If
the car ever 
backfires for any reason, it will set the air filter foam on fire, and
then 
the fire spreads and engulfs the car.

My Pantera was equipped with one of these deathtraps when I bought it,
and I 
refused to drive it that way.  I bought my car from Hall, and I arranged
to 
get a proper (and safe) air filter system and I installed it before ever
leaving 
the shop.  

If you have one of those triangle jobs on your car (any car), PLEASE do 
yourself a favor and remove it and throw it away!
