The right side of the housing (which on dash-2 bolts in place) was welded to the center section with one massive bead weld. This one looks like it's made in one piece. This smaller housing would not hold a clutch type diff using the same parts that I saw which supports Jack's theory of this being a sprag unit. Since it's not even bolted together it should be pretty easy to just pull the left side off and peek inside. The dash-0 part of the ZF manual we all use indicates no spring loaded parts inside.
