Will,
The only place a sealer such as Yamabond is used on the ZF is between
the front and rear cases. This is because these cases are a zero or
metal to metal fit and they should be joined without using a gasket.
Internal clearances depend on the zero fit. All other mating surfaces
use a gasket.
Many sealers are appropriate. Yamabond sets fairly quickly and I have
had better success with something from a local outboard motor shop that
is used for sealing the crank halves of an outboard motor. Locktite also
makes an excellent sealer for metal to metal assemblies.
