[DeTomaso] Never Wrong on Cooling... was Cooling.

I don't know Jack....that NASCAR radiator in my Pantera only cost $250 (thank you Ken Green & Dick Drenske!) ;-]>

Definately the best value added improvement to sustained high speed cooling in open road racing I have ever added to the Pantera in 35 or so ORR's was to add that Ron Davis NASCAR rad.

There is no one silver bullet for WOT cooling at least if you expect to do it longer then 20 minutes.....The 2" high lip spoiler 'may' help at high speed... Even the Revson spoiler helped 'some' up to a certain point....and the air dam helped 'some' up to a point....as did the old brass Hall Phoenix radiator help 'some' up to a point...so did the air to oil cooler help 'some' up to a point ....so did the reduced oil temps of the heat exchanger. I'm not sure if the most recent mods to the hood (ala GT40) helped cooling but it definately helped reduce high speed front end lift a BUNCH in handling speeds 170-175 MPH.

And the POINT is......... its gonna take more then one fix to help a Pantera moving north of 5,500 R's for longer then 20 minutes....add in some head wind and some triple diget temps and it gets even more interesting.

About all I do know for sure at this point is that these mods work together on my Pantera and I ran the hell out of the Pantera at Silver State in September and the water and oil temps never rose above 200F and both averaged 180-185F. I've also run the Pantera in traffic in and around L.A. in near triple digit temps last year with out ever having to use the cooling fan in traffic.

So I can now say with IL Duce-like confidence that who ever told me on this List that you can't build a dual purpose (Street-Race) Pantera 'may' be WRONG! ;-]>

Look at any '82-up Pontiac Firebird or Z-28; there is a 2" high 'lip spoiler'
just below the radiator that induces a low pressure area behind the radiator,
vastly increasing air flow thru the radiator itself. For years I've suggested
that such might cure some Pantera's very high speed Silver State overheating
much cheaper than a NASCAR radiator, but no takers yet. Cheers- J deRyke
