My experience with those coolers is that they are of very little benefit.
They are supposed to keep the coolant from boiling so that it stays in contact
with the surfaces inside the block so that heat transfers.
Use a good synthetic oil like Mobil 1 and fix whatever is wrong with your
cooling system. Put on a heavy duty waterpump to push the water up to the
radiator and experiment with different radiator cap values, as high as 20 pounds.
Make sure no air is going around your radiator, seal around it, put a small
spoiler just behind the radiator to increase the vacuum behind it and to
prevent hot air from being sucked forward and back through the radiator. Install a
good coolant recovery system so that the system is completely full of coolant
and have a good strong set of fans (25 amps, a 50 amp relay and #10 wiring and
heavy duty wiring clips). And a good shroud. If all that does not work along
with a good free flowing thermostat then your radiator does not have the
capacity to take advantage of the afore mentioned fixes.
Good luck.
All the best, Dick Ruzzin.
