A consideration: If you have a seriously dead battery and get your  engine 
started (jumpers, or whatever) the full output of the alternator will be  going 
thru the ammeter to charge the battery.
 
Sending 140 amps from a really stout alternator thru the Pantera  
wiring/ammeter for an extended time would not be cool.
