[DeTomaso] intake manifold confusion

Most 351C heads have a 2 or a 4 cast into the upper corners, visible
outside the valve cover. This helps you immediately identify heads on
an engine as either 2V (small port for 2 barrel intakes) or 4V (huge
ports for 4 barrel intakes.
The 2V and 4V in this case does -not- refer to the number of valves per
cylinder, but rather as Forest pointed out, the volume based on
carburetor venturies (originally installed on the engine).
And then, you could have 4V open chamber and 4V quench. When looking at
the valve face side of head, this is the combustion chamber area. A
large round area indicates what we call an open chamber head. A
slightly kidney shape, like this:

is a closed or "quench" chamber. This smaller open area increases the
compression ratio. My point being, you might see the number 4 stamped
in the corner of a head, but you won't really know what the chamber is.
This last part is of no concern in your present situation, it's just
some gee-whiz info. :)
