>>>Well, Larry Stock had quite an experience with them.
Did you ever see that old Monty Python sketch, called The Insurance Sketch?
The gist of it was that the fellow in that sketch had accidently purchased
the "Never Pay" policy, that fails to pay out for any claim.
J.C. Taylor was like that for Larry. His Pantera got hit by an uninsured
driver who backed out of a driveway without looking. J.C. Taylor basically
refused to pay the claim--well, what they did was offer a token payment, something
like $4500, although the crash was bad enough to demolish the quarter panel,
bend the suspension, break the wheel, and (yikes!) bend the input shaft on the
gearbox.
Negotiations turned into lawsuits, which turned into a fraud case with a
potential multimillion dollar settlement. Then it all blew up when Larry's star
witness changed his story on the stand (lied), then got caught and basically
discredited all his testimony. (The guy was a PCNC member at the time, and a
complete and total flake. Several other PCNC members had big-time problems with
his body shop, and one had to eventually retrieve his Pantera at gunpoint!
The fellow eventually skipped town and hasn't been heard of since).
Ten years later, Larry's car is still in pieces.
There are plenty of reputable insurance companies out there--Parish/Heacock
has been absolutely excellent for me, paying several claims with nary a hint of
static (and actually reducing my rates afterwards!). Haggarty is also
reported to be excellent, although they are far less accepting of 'modified' cars
and basicalled to be quite good.
