The way it was explained to me by a Fluidyne rep was the early heat exchangers had a higher or unacceptable failure rate due to surge ruptures but the problem has since be fixed in later models through redesign and better QA, etc
The replacement model I got in 2001 has been bullet proof for 5 years to include early morning start ups up in Ely where it was 25-30F....
I don't have specs in front of me but you not only NEED the LARGER unit you also want the LARGER OIL inlet/outlets.....don't forget!!!

pump heater outlets to plumb it?
Sizing: use the biggest one they offer! Unfortunately, none of the 3 use the
same rating system. On my Ford/Laminova installation, see POCA Newsletter
October 04 for installation. I used the main water line return from the radiator;
all these heat exchangers have 1-1/4 to 1-1/2" water inlets & outlets for
plenty of flow & no restrictions. Heater hoses are for toy oil coolers!
If you go with a tubular Laminova or Aeroquip (made by Laminova), it can
replace the rear 16" of one of the steel water lines under the car, leaving
nothing hanging down & only one extra 3" hose section. Laminova & Aeroquip are both
able to be disassembled for cleaning; the Fluidyne is a welded assembly & thus
cannot be cleaned if you frag a motor & pieces get into the oil system. You
often see these at swap meets.... If you go with the Fluidyne, its the size of
a kid's lunchbox so will need to be fitted in the right side area below the
coil & voltage reg. Use big enough tube bends for no water restriction. You'll
find all connecting hoses are then very short.
Yes, IMHO. I used a Perma-cool #1062- It prevents the initial surge of cold,
thick oil into the cooler that ruptured Mad Dogs Fluidyne at 'Vegas a couple
of years ago.
NO. Thats for Moroso accumulators. Different problem.

splash guard

I suspect the boxy Fluidyne will be too close to the headers back there and
the others are both tubular, so there's better places for mounting that
rersults in shorter lines. John Taphorn used a tubular unit standing up near the
firewall for his track car.
Fluidyne, Laminova-USA and Aeroquip all have websites describing their
products but for Bob, here's a few photos from my adventures in '04. Good luck, pal-
