Hi Chuck,

Yes the flasher unit can go bad and they do. The old ones used spring steel 
and resistance heat to make them work. The click donk sound was the spring 
steel arm moving back and forth as it cooled and then heated up. The new 
ones are electronic and use magic to make the click donk sound.

In a normal car the 4 ways use the same wires as the turn signals do. 
Turning on the 4 ways is a good way to test the wires and lamps. Now in a 
Panters only COBill would know.
