Hi Doug,

I have one of those in my Pantera also, and love it.  I can't honestly say 
that it offers a performance benefit, although theoretically once it's set, it 
will never need adjustment or wear out unlike a chain.

The noise it makes is subdued, and beautiful, sort of like a supercharger 
Gilmer belt whine, but much softer.  Most people don't notice it until I point it 
out to them.  Then once they 'tune' their ears to hearing it, they really 
appreciate it.  But it's not obtrusive at all.
