[DeTomaso] Cleveland vrs Windsor

don't get me started on stupid rules, there are plenty of them. I just
removed a perfect set of Michelin Pilot MXX3's for the same reason. The
good news is the rules are listed in the rule sheet and they don't
change, so be ready in May!

JB

Hey, maybe you forgot.
The Beast was in Ely for the May ORR and made a valiant attempt to get
through tech in the 155mph bracket, to be sidelined just by stupid tire
date codes.

	Crazy Dan,
JB is right.... you should be running in 160-180 group in May
2007 for the following reasons;

	YOU have no fear
	YOU have no known relatives
	YOU can do it.
Get the beast or the Winged Warrior ready for battle....stop
talking about it...your starting to sound like most of the slackers on
this list ;-]

"The Winged Warrior" has been officially retired from
ORR runs and other
competition events following 4 SS finishes (and 3 blown
motors)and the
		acquisition of "The Beast".
"The Beast" tested well past 8,000 rpms on Hwy 318 last
May and will be run
at 160 mph+ IF they let me.
"The Winged Warrior", however, will just be a cruiser
and will not become
engaged in competition (unless, of course, someone
disrespects her by
squeeling a tire in her proximity, honks a horn three
times, revs an engine
or waves a flag - in which case the situation will be
out of my hands)
Hmmm - maybe I should go 4 bolt.

		Dan,

Just FYI, the reason the 4-bolt main cap was added was
the main bearing
bolts were too close to the main bearing bore which
allowed the outboard
part of the cap to lift off the saddle when load moved
from side to side
and it was evident by fretting of the saddle prior to
failure. This
type of failure only occurred at very high RPM.

If you plan on spending a lot of time at high RPM
(~>6000 RPM) maybe the
4-bolt block is worth the added cost....? Maybe if we
could talk you
into some 180+ MPH ORR time, that 4-bolt block would pay
off!?!?!? ;)

		Dan,

I wouldn't go out of my way to get a 4-bolt block. You
would be much
better off buying a local 2-bolt block rather than a
4-bolt far from
view. Don't do the sight-unseen thing without sonic
data. The biggest
problem is like you say, shipping costs. Even if the guy
gives a money
back guarantee, he won't cover shipping! Have someone
local check it
		out.

		Jack,

The shop will be tearing it down and magging parts later
this week.
This shop is telling me the Cleveland four bolt is no
big deal, smaller
bolts and the drilling actually weakens the cast. They
are endorsing a 2

bolt main Cleveland, as they say the Cleveland's hardly
ever have main
		bearing issues.
The deceased engine has part numbers D2AE-CA and the
heads are D7AE.
