FWIW, my biker-son & I are part-way thru a truck engine swap. He has a very
nice '92 Chevy 1-ton crew-cab dualie with a 5th wheel. The 454 in it not only
sucks at mileage (4mpg!), it has no power to speak of, at least at 5000 ft
altitude. So a month ago, he bought a ratty but good running '91 Ford duallie with
a 7.3-liter powerstroke diesel and a Banks Sidewinder turbo blowing 15 psi.
That thing with the same gearing gives 15 mpg and is MUCH faster. But it
rides.... well, like a truck with overload springs. So in a couple of weeks, the
smooth riding Chev should have a nice turbo-diesel & a Ford C-6 tranny. No smog
tests either. Cheers- J DeRyke
