It's not a cynical bunch at all. I wouldn't hesitate to call anyone in the
POCA roster in an emergency or otherwise, whether I knew them or not. Even
if your rescuer didn't have a mechanical bone in their body I can pretty
much guarantee they'd do whatever was required to get you off the side of
the road and back on the road. And the good Samaritan act could easily
include a room for the night.
Don't underestimate the power of the Force, Luke.

As stated before, the reason these things have threads,
being a member and being willing to help are two entirely different things,
I would no more call another member at large out of the blue who may or may
not have any mechanical abilities, work space, tools, etc. than I would pick
a surgeon out of the yellow pages.
Perhaps that whole reading is fundemental thing needs repeating.
If one were to read the example one would see how it differs from a
membership list.
and by inclusion implies a willingness to help.
I have a garage
I have tools
I am mechanically minded
I can drive you to a parts store
etc.
Membership is not required nor would I refuse any Pantera owner who wasn't a
member.
Damn cynical bunch, any extra effort looks unlikely.
