Bob,
RJ and Big Red are a big draw to Silver State. Far as Frank is concerned I wrote an article for PI about going to the La Carrera in 2004 and running the Hill Climb as well as the road race. Spoke to a couple friends of Franks and several people in Mexico who knew Frank and remembered the day he went off the road and was killed.
Last year I met one of his sons at the Huntington Beach Concours and he thanked me for mentioning his dad in the story about the Mexican race. I also think Mikey has some additional history on Frank from archives. You need to join us next year in Mexico! ;-]

Seriously, you did us ALL proud in your rookie race to average 140 and also nail your time/speed. When dick Drenske, Eliot and Lyn and I were all at the banquet dinner everytime they announced another Pantera you could hear another long sucking groan out of the assembled Corvette and Viper crowd. I made Eliot go up and get everyone's trophy since I had already got a 5 minute "roast" and the "hard luck trophy" earlier. At one point Kelly just handed Eliot an extra trophy so everyone with Team Pantera Racing could go home with a trophy! ;-] It was impressive.

One of the high lights of the weekend for me was watching Big Red
make a couple of runs at 200 mph. Big Red is the Camaro that
RJ Gottieb ran in the first two Silver States and eariler in Mexico.
We watched him come into the pits with the snarling Camaro and
listen to them talk about rpm, tire size and guessing if it was
a 195 or 197-8 mph run.

I had a 69 Z28 that was also red when I was a kid and just
bought a shell recently to do something

Those web surfers can check their web site at www.bigredcamaro.com
It talks about the car, how the Silver State came about and mentions
a highly modified Pantera. I received the Frank Gerum Memorial Award in Vegas
and have been told this is the gentleman that was killed in Mexico
racing that highly modified Pantera that is mentioned.

It kind of spooked me a little since I was going to make my first
Silver State run two weeks later. All went well but it put a head
trip on me for a while. I am now interested in finding out more
about Frank and his car for those who may know.

Bob (no longer a rookie) Benson- TEAM PANTERA
