[DeTomaso] LESSONS LEARNED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD - WAS SSCC

We pretty much knew as JB wrote earlier that the motor would not run at WOT for 90 miles....2-3 weeks ago during a dyno pull it was confirmed I had some oil blow by.

Subsequent follow-up checkt and a leak down test aconfirmed it was rings but also that the Holly 850cfm was jetted too fat. Timing was checked and it was fine. Carb was pulled and primary and secondary jets and power valves changed but running that carb in the last 1-2 ORR's last season probably caused premature ring/cyl wear....my bad.

I ran 19.8 miles....at about 15 oil pressure started dropping...at 20 PSI I shut it down and coasted to a stop. Dick Drenske is going to pull the motor in another week in his shop and get it over to Russ Fulps for the rebuild.

Only question unanswered at this point s whether or not the block is repairable...if its not I may go to a Windsor/Sportsman block....one thing is for sure. I got 2 years, 12 ORR's and allot of street miles out of this last build so no complaints about the last engine build 2 years ago. Other then wanting to add a EFI system I probably will not change anything.

Hey Rookie-no-more,

I'll take a bite of that humble pie ;-]

MD, conversed with horses, cows, Coyote's and Lizards at Mile 19.8 for 7
hours Sunday!

I just came into the office after the long haul back from Ely yesterday

Six panteras started.. Five finished
No offical results as I am not sure who went to the Awards show last night

Larry Stock 150 average finished and thinks he nailed it
Bob Benson 140 average finished- gps was right on 140 but thinks 30 seconds
off
Chuck Brown(Driving John Bently's car) ran 130 finished and thinks he did
well and loves
the alternate "B" engine... the "A" engine is still
on the stand
Eliot Kushner and Lynn Rosa 125 average finished and think they did well
Jason Eaton and Nick Morland 120 average finished within 1 1/2 seconds!!!

Dan Courtney had rear tires 2 months too old to run above 110 class and
decided not to run

That leaves One lone Pantera that I saw about 20 miles
out on course on the side of the road. I won't say the name but I think it
was blue or brokeback
mountain purple... He was on the phone or radio looking stylish, leaning on
the car with
his goofy hat and those funky blue sun glasses

He might know the results or might be still out there with the coyotes,
morman crickets
and mosquitos.

Great weekend... good runs TEAM PANTERA
