I'd like to volunteer to become the official charity of the 2007 Vegas Fun
Rally Raffle.
I could really use a 3-point roll bar.

Subject: [DeTomaso] Raffles w/o zzzz's
In case anyone is interested in how some other clubs do raffles at largely
attended events:
Corvette National (yep..I said it; there are many lurkers out there who do
have both C's & P's..and you know who you are), they run major raffles by
having a table showing all the prizes and donors. Prizes are numbered.
Folks buy
their tickets and place half in the cage or target box. The numbers of
winning tickets are posted on a board off to the side or back of ballroom
every
half hour or so during the event. Rather than taking hours to announce
winners, the winning numbers are picked from a team of people; participants
can
watch if they desire, then winning numbers are written on a board next to
the
prize number. This is done off to the side at intervals throughout the
evening. People enjoy taking a break and going to check the winners' board
to see
if they've won anything. No one is disturbed from the festivities,
dancing,
socializing of the evening and yet still can win great prizes.
Ferrari, Mercedes, many others, SEMA handles it with a silent auction. All
prizes displayed or marked w/ an information card describing prize and
contributor. Members can bid all evening until the cut-off time and then
prizes
distributed. Another advantage, people pay by check made out to the
organization; there is no chance of cash getting lost or going astray.
Works great.... I love going for the fine restaurant gift cards...
Morton's,
Ruth Chris, etc. or exotic items. Almost got a red/black leather Ducati
jacket one time at the Mercedes of Beverly Hills for $150. but it was too
big
and that was BD (before Ducati). Now that it's AD and I have all the
Pantera
parts I could possibly want, I'll stick with the restaurants. It's quite
fun
and invigorating.
As a side note, I don't know of any event I've ever attened where there
isn't a selected charity which receives a percentage of the earnings in
addition
to the club. That is not only philanthropic but an incentive to
contributors. POCA should consider it.
Laurie (done my time in handling the POCA raffle too).
