So you take my favorite road in the world, NORTH at the Mad Greek out of 
Baker. Don't get too tempted- there are occasional coyotes and damp dry-washes, 
but this road arrows straight for tens of miles at a time with non-existent 
traffic (usually) past Dumont Dunes- a favorite of So-Cal sand-buggy guys, until 
you get to Shosone, where you make a right,  & go over the ridge into Pahrump. 
Then its a 55 mile run into 'Vegas on the Blue Diamond highway. This 'detour' 
is much faster than the interstate, and is deserted- besides the local cop in 
Shoshone, you won't see police or anyone else. Good luck- J DeRyke
