Richard,
Sorry to digress from your subject problem (I can't help u with that),
but I would like to hear more about your solenoid on the carb. My car
will die while idling with the A/C on. I could set the idle a bit
higher, but then with the A/C off, it idles too high. What sort of
solenoid did you use and how did you tie it into the A/C system. I want
one of those!

Subject: [DeTomaso] generator light and alternator
Hi Fellow Pantera Owners,
I went for a great ride Saturday here in the Southern Calif area. The
car
ran great. Engine stayed cool, A/C stayed cool. Even at stop lights
finally
I can idle (installed a solenoid for the A/C on the carb to kick up the
idle)
and put out enough amps to run the fans and keep the engine from
getting
hot. I was sooooo happy. While going home I was thinking to myself
this is
the best the car has ever run. Everything electrical was perfect.
On the way home, in the true spirit of my car, a mile from the house the
generator light came on and the amp meter fell just left of center.
Made it
home fine. No stalling at stop lights and the car even turned over fine
latter
that day. Today, I put a volt meter on the battery and without the
engine on
it reads 12 volts. I started the car and let it idle a little and saw
no
drop in voltage nor any increase in voltage when I increased the RPMs.
Seems
like the alternator is not sending juice out. Is that a good
conclusion to
draw?
Belts are good and tight. The alternator is spinning fine. This is a
100
amp single wire alternator that is only a few months old with only a
few
hundred miles on it.
Any suggestions on where to start trouble shooting?
Thanks in advance,
Richard Mosier
