The only one I have heard is yes KB pistons are not good....And I stayed
away from them when I built my Engine on that advise from a builder.
The rest of it well...... The roller cam in a Cleveland, come on get
real..... I run a 620 Lift Solid....No problems. And it makes really
impressive power! So I am not sure why he is indicating they are no good
for a street engine? There our many others here running Hydraulic rollers as
well, most have been successful..... It is true because I am using a solid
roller they need a bit more maintenance and checking on the Rollers.... But
thats the only negative that comes to mind on my setup. Not a big deal to
me I am able to wrench my own ride.....
The rest of it?????? Sounds to me he is an Old School builder and builds
stock style engines to last forever, rather then to perform..... You need
to talk with Mad Dawgs prefferred Russ Fulps before taking this guys words
to heart.... I might even ad he probably is your best bet on a turn key
engine package on the Dawgs words and experiences with him.

Subject: [DeTomaso] advice needed

> I've had two Comp Cams go flat so I called up a professional Cleveland
engine builder that came highly reccomended and he basically said that
everything I've been doing is wrong. I was using flat tappet hydraulic cams
(went flat) and called him to ask about using a roller hydraulic cam. He
said that rollers are no good on a street cleveland engine. I've also been
using a stainless steel Romac damper. Again no good. Also I've been using
an engine oil cooler which he said not to use as clevelands don't need it
and it takes too much to pump up the oil into them. Also I've been using an
extra oil line that goes from an oil gallery plug just above the oil filter
back to where the sender is for extra oiling for the rear mains. Again,
Don't use. I have KB Hypereutectic pistons that he said "take them out
right away" as they are known to break. I have a Moroso oil accumulator
that he said don't use as it takes too much pressure to pump up. He does
his own oil mod that he has developed over the years that makes all this
unneccesary but he said it's his own secret development and would'nt tell
me. Also the Comp Cams that I have been trying to use (560 lift - FC
292H-10) do not agree with a cleveland engine whatsoever?!......
