FWIW- aged caliper dust covers tear easily, which is why I always tell people
who are trying to rebuild their calipers to push the piston right thru the
dust cover, then once the obstructing piston is out of the way, the dust cover
and its wire snap-ring can be popped out without damage.
If the tear is not too bad, it can be carefully patched with a thin layer of
RTV once the rubber is clean. Or, consider simply not using a dust cover on
that hole; Wilwood, Sierra and other racing calipers, common on many modified
Panteras, do not come with dust covers and they seem to last quite a while with
an occasional preventive-maintenence inspection & wipe-down.
