[DeTomaso] [LPC] Distributor Function

I have a buddy with a kit cobra that has a 460 in it.  It has a MSD 
magnetic pickup distributor and a MSD 6AL box.  When he cranks it over 
he isn't getting any spark on the spark plugs.  He tested the box by 
using the jumper on the green and purple wires and the coil sparks.

If he cranks the engine over with the coil wire (between the coil and 
the center of the distributor) near a ground, should it spark?
